Easy DIY Gift Card Holder: Thanks a Latte!

Thanks a latte

I was searching for a fun and meaningful Christmas gift idea for my son’s preschool teachers, and I came across this creative way to package a gift card. I found the printable HERE and printed them on white cardstock as 5×7 pictures. Then I visited my local Starbucks and picked up a few gift cards and cup holders (that part was FREE!).

I added  some festive ribbon to finish them off. That’s it…super easy! I also helped my son make a homemade card for his teachers by dipping his thumb in green paint and making a Christmas tree out of his thumbprints. I wish I would have snapped a few pictures because it turned out precious! Just another simple idea.

Do you have any creative gift ideas like this that you enjoy giving to teachers, co-workers, neighbors, friends, and so on? I always love hearing and seeing new ideas!

Merry Christmas!

The Canvas of Motherhood

What I Didn't Know

The smiles, the tears, the laughter, the exhaustion, the surprises — all blend together to to paint a picture of a journey unique to every mom. A once blank canvas gets covered in memories, adventures and lessons learned.

No two canvases are the same.

Each canvas represents a story. A significant story.

Sometimes as moms we feel small; other times we see our impact. Sometimes our canvas appears dull; other times its bursting with color.

The peaceful cuddles, the sticky hands that don’t mind the mess, the sweet phrases that make the sun peek through grey clouds — refresh our canvas with life.

It’s no wonder we often say that our kids are our world — their fingerprints fill every nook and cranny of the canvas. They forever change us. They give us a reason to get up every morning, shower or no shower, and embrace the awaiting day.

They need us. And the Great Artist knows that we need them too, because sometimes they are our greatest teachers.

The canvas of motherhood is ever emerging; each brush stroke weaves together, creating a picture that is a part of a greater story.

His story.

He Makes Everything Beautiful in His Time

master plan

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. ~Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

About this time last year my family and I were settling into our new home. It was a time a transition for us. The above verse resonated with me as I unpacked boxes and gradually found just the right places for all our stuff.

Something peaceful filled my heart knowing that God makes everything beautiful in His time.

His time.

This time last year, there were moments when I wanted  speed some things up. There were house projects to be done. I wanted to fast forward and feel settled in—but it takes time to transform a house into a home.

It takes time.

We still have a growing list of house projects. We probably always will, but our place feels like home now.

Today, the above verse in Ecclesiastes came to mind again but for different reasons. The past few weeks have been filled with a few changes—good changes, but changes that have also stretched me outside of my comfort zone and filled my calendar with lots to do.

Once again, that peaceful reminder that God makes everything beautiful in His time, is a comfort to my soul.

The truth is, God has a master plan. He has a plan for each of our lives. And the greatest thing we can ever do is yield to His perfect plan and allow it to unfold in His timing. When we do, we can rest assured that He who began a good work in us will carry out until the day of completion.

He makes everything beautiful in His time.

Just like it takes time to transform a house into a home, it takes time for God to transform us into His likeness. It takes time for His plans to unfold.

If we focus too heavily on trying to fast forward to the  “settled in” moments, we loose sight of the beauty and importance of this moment. There is a purpose for the uncomfortable moments, for the joyful moments, for the confusing moments, and for the laughter-filled moments. Our unchanging God intertwines it all, and makes everything beautiful in His time.
