He Makes Everything Beautiful in His Time

master plan

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. ~Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

About this time last year my family and I were settling into our new home. It was a time a transition for us. The above verse resonated with me as I unpacked boxes and gradually found just the right places for all our stuff.

Something peaceful filled my heart knowing that God makes everything beautiful in His time.

His time.

This time last year, there were moments when I wanted  speed some things up. There were house projects to be done. I wanted to fast forward and feel settled in—but it takes time to transform a house into a home.

It takes time.

We still have a growing list of house projects. We probably always will, but our place feels like home now.

Today, the above verse in Ecclesiastes came to mind again but for different reasons. The past few weeks have been filled with a few changes—good changes, but changes that have also stretched me outside of my comfort zone and filled my calendar with lots to do.

Once again, that peaceful reminder that God makes everything beautiful in His time, is a comfort to my soul.

The truth is, God has a master plan. He has a plan for each of our lives. And the greatest thing we can ever do is yield to His perfect plan and allow it to unfold in His timing. When we do, we can rest assured that He who began a good work in us will carry out until the day of completion.

He makes everything beautiful in His time.

Just like it takes time to transform a house into a home, it takes time for God to transform us into His likeness. It takes time for His plans to unfold.

If we focus too heavily on trying to fast forward to the  “settled in” moments, we loose sight of the beauty and importance of this moment. There is a purpose for the uncomfortable moments, for the joyful moments, for the confusing moments, and for the laughter-filled moments. Our unchanging God intertwines it all, and makes everything beautiful in His time.

The Beauty of Changing Seasons

A new season always signifies change. The first day of Fall is just a few days away and many changes will gradually occur. Leaves will start to turn beautiful autumn shades, pumpkins of all sizes will be everywhere, cozy clothes will fill our closets again and apple cider will be the perfect remedy for cooler weather. Warm summer days will become memories and new autumn memories await our discovery.

Similar to the transition from Summer to Fall, I too am in a season of change. A few weeks ago my little family said good-bye to our condo {our first home}, and we said hello to a house. Our cozy condo was a blessing to us for four years. After clearing out our condo, I stood there and looked around at an empty place—but it really was not empty. It was full of so many memories that will stay with me forever…

Friday night pizza and movie dates with my husband

fun birthday celebrations

finding out that we were pregnant for the first time

hand painting images on the wall of our son’s woodland themed nursery

bringing our son home from the hospital for the first time

grilling on the patio

baking goodies in the kitchen

and the list goes on…

God blessed us richly in our time there and we became stronger as a family. We were grateful for that place, yet it was always our hope to have a house. God heard the desires of our hearts and He graciously opened the door for this happen. We now have an inviting new place to call home and have experienced a road of changes along the way.

Through this time of transition, I am reminded of a few things:

Change is a process.

We are still sorting through boxes and adjusting to living in a new home. I have to daily remind myself that it takes time to settle into a home. The heart and soul it takes to make a house a home is no one-day task. It takes patience and hard work, but it is very rewarding to see things come together.

Change reminds us of how much we need God.

While I absolutely love our new house, there have been some stressful and exhausting days throughout this move. These harder days point me back to my need for God. God wants us to depend on Him, trust Him and rely on Him to meet our every need. Truthfully, I rely on myself way too much sometimes and ignore the help God wants to offer me. He is refining me during this time and reminding of the peace that comes from resting in His comforting arms.

Change awakens newness.

This move has brought about many new blessings. There are new spaces to decorate, new places for my 2-year to explore {like the backyard}, new neighbors to get to know, a new community to enjoy and many new memories to be made.

There will always be changes in life—Whether it be a move, a job change, a new child or an unexpected situation. While our circumstances are always changing, what a comfort to know that God’s promises always stay the same. His constant love and faithfulness remains perfect through every season our lives. Through the changes He is there to guide us, refine us and lead us to glorious places.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. ~Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV
